Better Writers, Not Just Better Writing: Online Strategies to Support Writers in All Disciplines

Biographies

Ellen Spaldo
Assistant Professor of English and Director of Writing, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Ellen Spaldo, Ph.D., received the 2008 Steven J. Rosen Mentor Award from the New Jersey College English Association. She is Assistant Professor of English and Director of Writing on the Metropolitan Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. For a number of years, she held the position of Assistant Provost for Educational Technology at FDU and served as Coordinator of the Digital Learning Academic Advisory Board (DLAAB) of NJEDge.net. She has designed and implemented faculty and staff development programs in the field of distance learning, having trained hundreds of college, university, and high school instructors and administrators throughout New Jersey and in other states. As a distance learning consultant, she has worked with Carnegie Hall, NJPAC, and UMDNJ. In addition, as Ellen Lanese, she is a professional actor who also serves as faculty advisor and director to the University Players, the student theatre group of the Metropolitan Campus of FDU.

 

Janet Boyd, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of English and Coordinator of the Metro Writing Studio on the Metropolitan Campus at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is also the Coordinator of Developmental Writing and actively involved "Faculty for Freshmen," a taskforce committed to improving the first-year college experience.

She is a member of the International Writing Center Association for which she will be chairing a panel at this year's conference. When she is not teaching, she can be found in the Writing Studio supervising the professional tutoring staff, designing special-interest workshops, and collaborating with other faculty on how to improve student writing campus-wide.
