Instructional Technologies Symposium

September 20, 2006  9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Presentation

BLAKE HAGGERTY, NJIT: Regardless of whether they are taking a face-to-face or an online course, today's students have increased expectations regarding how they use the web to communicate and consume information. With the introduction of Web 2.0, students have come to expect that they will not just consume but also create, contribute and interact with their online content. This session will explore some of the Web 2.0 technologies that students have become familiar with, such as Wikis, Podcasts, Blogs, and Personal Publishing site (Myspace, Facebook, Friendster), and how they can be utilized to enhance the educational experience. Embracing these technologies will help meet students' expectations as well as ensure that your course continues to grow and evolve.

ERIC WEINSTEIN, BERKELEY COLLEGE: Web 2.0, the e-merging idea and technology driving innovation in not only e-learning but also the larger Internet, is here to stay because of its focus on people and community. Students use such technology all the time for personal use and now expect it when learning online. Some examples of Web 2.0 technology include audio creation and podcasting as well as streaming video and Flash. Eric Weinstein, Instructional Designer, will discuss examples of how Berkeley College implements Web 2.0 and multimedia technology for students.
