| Miranda Polycom Maine Presentation
Demonstration of MPEG2 and H.323 Codecs (*This demonstration will permit a comparison of MPEG2 and H.323 in order that institutions eligible for a "free" codec can make an informed choice.)
MPEG2 has IDLS video quality. Miranda is the official MPEG2 offering of Verizon. The MAC 500 supports mulitpoint and emulates IDLS with 1 transmit and 3 receives. (Please look at this presentation: LEVERAGING MULTIPLE INITIATIVES INTO A STATE-WIDE NETWORK by Gerry Dube of the Maine network.) H.323 is increasingly gaining popularity. The Polycom VS 4000 can emulate IDLS with 1 transmit and 3 receives. *The original RFP requested a gateway to IDLS. Bell Atlantic's answer (now Verizon) was to provide a free MPEG2 Codec to existing IDLS customers (who purchase a circuit on the NJEDge.Net network) instead of setting up a gateway to IDLS. Please note that this offering is separate from Verizon's notice to give the last 6 months of IDLS free at the time an institution drops their current IDLS service. |
