WebCT Training Session 1 – Version 3.6 Standard This session will be repeated at 1:30. (Limited to 15 people each
session) This introductory
workshop is designed for faculty and administrators who are relatively new to teaching online,
those planning to teach with WebCT in the near future, and those interested
in exploring WebCT as a course management system. Training will cover the description and function of WebCT
tools, how to structure material, designing from the student and faculty
perspective, and troubleshooting techniques for finding answers to difficult
questions. Pedagogical topics will include student learning styles, good
teaching practices, and creating online community. The workshop will also
introduce current topics in online learning such as designing for
accessibility, academic honesty, learning objects, and intellectual property. Fee: $35. (Includes admission to

Introduction -
Keynote: Mathematics, Science,
and Engineering in WebCT at Clemson University with Q&A -
Bill Moss, Phd, Clemson
University This presentation will examine the use of WebCT to support
mathematics, science, and engineering courses at Clemson University. These
courses include calculus, differential equations, general chemistry, organic
chemistry, physics, physical science, and freshman engineering. The presenter
will discuss his colleagues’ thoughts on the value that WebCT adds to these
courses. Bill Moss is a Professor of
Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University. He has a BS in Electrical
Engineering from MIT and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of
Delaware. He has worked at Lockheed Aircraft, the Naval Nuclear Power School,
Georgia Institute of Technology, Old Dominion University, and Clemson
University. His research involves mathematical modeling including modeling
fires in buildings. He is currently experimenting with student-centered,
active learning methods supported by information technology. In 1998 he was a
member of the team to initiate a pilot laptop program supported by WebCT. |
