Chapel, Ph.D. Dr. Edward Chapel’s career trajectory has afforded him opportunities to develop knowledge and experience pertaining to research, planning, assessment, budgeting, enrollment management, education, administration and personnel management within institutions of higher learning. He has enjoyed the opportunity to serve the higher education community in various sectors of the enterprise including community colleges as well as private and public sector comprehensive Universities. The integration of enabling digital technologies has been a core focus of his endeavors throughout his career. More specifically, Dr. Chapel reports that his professional efforts have been focused on the strategic development of information technology capacity and applications to support new models of teaching, learning and research and to develop more effective, student centered, administrative services. He has endeavored to do so for the past 25 years as a faculty member, an Institutional Research Director and, in recent years, as a Director for Management Information Systems and as the Chief Information Officer at Montclair State University and, prior to that, Fairleigh Dickinson University. Dr. Chapel states that he has become increasingly aware of the pivotal role that technology plays in the future success of our colleges and universities and the students they serve. Mindful of this reality, he remains resolute in his efforts to anticipate and to plan for the introduction of enabling digital technologies wherever they provide an opportunity to improve the way we do business and teach our students. At this time, Dr. Chapel is the Associate Vice President for Information Technology at Montclair State University with responsibility for the University’s entire information resources enterprise which includes the Office of Institutional Research, Academic Technology, the Technology Solutions Center, Computing Laboratories, Management Information Systems, Systems and Security, and finally, Networking and Telecommunications. He is also responsible for managing the technology integration aspects of major capital projects. Dr. Chapel reports that a highlight in his career has been the opportunity to oversee the technology integration and audio-visual/media design associated with construction of Montclair State University’s 275,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, academic building which is slated to open in January of 2006. Apart from professional activities, Dr. Chapel enjoys life with his wife, Diane, and their two daughters Eileen and Claire. He remains an active ice hockey player, a very bad golfer and he enjoys gardening. |
