Biography: Mike McKay

Michael V. McKay assumed the position of Associate Director of the Center for Computer Aids for Industrial Productivity (CAIP) on 1 August 1988 after moving across the Rutgers campus where as the Professor of Military Science he had directed the Army ROTC program for three years.

McKay’s 22 year military career ranged from infantry command in Vietnam to planning, organizing, and directing operations involving a joint 17 nation United Nations Force in Egypt, Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

During his tenure at CAIP, McKay contributed to its expansion from seven to over thirty industrial members. CAIP’s research budget increased from under $3 million in FY89 to averaging over $6 million.

In April 1999, McKay was named Executive Director for Computing and Information Technology for Rutgers University Computing Services. His responsibilities included the oversight of computing services on Rutgers’ campuses in Camden, Newark and New Brunswick; all administrative computing services; and university-wide telecommunications.

In April 2004, McKay was appointed Vice President for Information Technology and CIO.
