ePoster: Giving Voices to the Voiceless

The goal of this project was to integrate information technology (i.e., Blackboard Discussion Forum) as a complement to face-to-face clinical supervison in the context of an online, blended course. The content, tone and dynamics in practicum classes are often driven by small numbers of students with many students simply uncomfortable in expressing themselves in front of peers. Many students remain voiceless. Based on observations and comparisons with in-class discussions and dynamics, as well as student assessments, the distance-based discussion group provided a dynamic vehicle for promoting fuller participation and more in-depth discussion and communication.

Biography: Bruce Diamond

The author is a clinician/researcher who has experience in teaching Practicum-based courses to clinicians in training that do and do not integrate Blackboard into the curriculum. In addition, the author has been a Principal Investigator on a grant-related project that used Information Technology to deliver educational and rehabilitation services and resources to individuals with brain injuries.
