ePoster: AFS - A Wide Area Network Distributed File SystemGedaliah Wolosh, Manager, Computing Resources, Computer Services Division, NJITThe Andrew File System (AFS) is a well-established wide area network (WAN) distributed file system. AFS was developed at Carnegie Mellon University and is now maintained as the OpenAFS open source project. As a WAN distributed file system, AFS is particularly well suited for both inter- and intra-institutional use. AFS runs on all major operating systems, including Unix/Linux and Windows. AFS presents the same file space from every client in an AFS "cell"; it is widely in use at universities, and other institutions, in the US and elsewhere. An introduction to AFS, requirements for running AFS, and the experience and methods employed at NJIT will be presented. |
