NJEDge.Net provides a ubiquitous service to New Jersey’s academic community. Through its deployment of a regional optical network, member institutions have broadband access to state-of-the-art emerging technologies that enrich education, foster research and development, and expand outreach and public services at affordable rates. George Laskaris has championed this mission since the consortium was created in 2000.

His vision guides NJEDge.Net. Through his efforts over fifty higher education institutions, several K-12 districts, and a non-profit arm of a state hospital receive Internet and Internet2 connectivity. George’s strategy for the next two years is to expand this base to include hospitals and health providers as subscribers.

When Internet2 launched its Sponsored Education Group Program, allowing community colleges and K12 school districts to gain affordable statewide access, George immediately presented its benefits to member institutes. Faster access means greater opportunities for global research and collaboration. Internet2 resources are the ideal medium for progressive integration of technology. In recognition of his work, the Board of Trustees appointed George to be the president and CEO of NJEDge.Net in 2008.
