Mary Balkun & Mary Zedeck Dr. Mary Balkun is Associate Professor of English and Chairperson of the English Department at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. She is also a Senior Faculty Fellow with the university's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center and co-chairs the university's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable. She is the recipient of a Curriculum Development Initiative grant for writing-intensive courses, a project that is Blackboard based, and has presented on the use of course management systems for faculty development. Mary completed her Ph.D. in English and American Literature at New York University. She is the author of The American Counterfeit: Authenticity and Identity in American Literature and Culture, as well as Associate Editor of The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Poets and Poetry. She has published articles on Phillis Wheatley, Walt Whitman, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Dr. Balkun has been a Second Life resident and educator since April of 2007. Mary Zedeck is an Instructional Designer with the TLTC at Seton Hall University. Mary supports faculty members in the design, integration and assessment of technology resources for courses and programs. Mary is very interested in emerging technologies and has been a Second Life resident and educator since July of 2007.
