Abstract

Helping Students Work in a Virtual World: Web Tools, Skills, and Teaching Techniques
  Session I, Thursday 10:30 - 11:30
Craig Kapp, Assistant Director of User Support Services, The College of New Jersey
Lynn Braender, Academic Computing Advisor and Assistant Professor,
School of Business, The College of New Jersey

As a rule, Business students spend much of their time working in teams, and much of this work can be completed and enhanced through the use of virtual space. This session will showcase a partnership between the School of Business and Instructional Technology Services to create a virtual space using a variety of commonly available web-based tools such as wikis, podcasts, RSS feeds and collaborative documents.  We will focus on the construction of a workspace that supports collaboration, and will demonstrate techniques used in Management of Information Technology courses to support virtual group work. We will also show how student performance can be assessed through an online peer evaluation system.
