Program
On April 7, 2004 from 11:00am -12:30pm there will be a press conference at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center hosted by the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey and a number of notable NJ born celebrities and sports figures to inform young voters of changes in the electoral process and to encourage our younger citizens to vote.
The Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), is an unprecedented new federal law which is intended to improve the quality of every state's administration of elections and to encourage all qualified citizens to vote.
All New Jersey College and University Presidents as well as high school principals have received a letter from our Attorney General, Peter Harvey requesting support this effort by providing an opportunity for high school seniors and college freshmen to view the event via live videoconferencing or as streamed video.
In support of this event a collaboration emerged between NJIT, NJN, NJEDge.Net, Verizon and Access New Jersey to distribute live video of the event over both of New Jersey's education networks, NJEDge.Net and Access New Jersey. NJIT will also be streaming the event over the NJEDge Extranet and well as the Internet. Those sites choosing to videoconference with the NJEDge Portal may provide their students an opportunity to interact with the celebrities at NJPAC at the end of the formal program.
