Miranda MAC500IP Network Requirements
- Data must go through switches or routers, no hub in the data path.
- All links between switches or routers must be set to full duplex.
- The Ethernet interface facing the MAC500 must be forced to full duplex and 100BaseT. (To match manual setting in the MAC500.)
- The cable quality should be CAT 5 or higher.
- The video traffic should pass by the shortest path from the end location to the router.
- A VLAN should be created to separate regular data traffic from video traffic. Otherwise, have a separate Video Network from the Data Network. This eliminates unwanted broadcast and makes the network much more robust.
- Disable SPT on the Ethernet interface facing the MAC500.
- If Cisco routers are used, the main CPU must not exceed 70%.
- The routers/switches/links must support a constant bit rate around 10 Mbps.
- Set MTU to 1500.
- The overall Jitter on the network should not be more than 1.5 milliseconds.
- Use of LAN emulation should be restricted.
- On some networks, QoS mechanisms with Policy management must be used.
- Mirandas must be able to "ping" each other, and send and receive SNMP commands.
- Mirandas are set to mark packets at a diffserve value of 88 to correspond to an IP Precedence value of 4. "Honor" and "re-mark" these packets appropriately.
