Synopsis:
In this presentation, we share our research based on an interdisciplinary online course called, "Rediscovering History through Media Education." This course explores creative strategies to integrate new media and technologies into the social studies curriculum and outlines activities, exercises, and assessment strategies that align with the curriculum standards addressing Media Literacy and Social Studies curriculum. The presentation describes teacher candidates' reactions, discoveries, and experiences with media; showcases their exploration of and rediscovery on History; and focuses on reconstructing curriculum in teacher education programs through the process of producing video documentaries; researching historical documents; deconstructing social studies history books and curricula using Semiotics Theory and Multicultural perspective. Synopsis: This two-hour presentation will be of interest to faculty, instructional designers, librarians, and university administrators. It will focus on copyright issues in face-to-face, online, and blended learning environments.
Topics will include: Copyright myths; public domain and permissions; fair use; doing a fair use analysis; good faith defense; the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the TEACH Act; licensing and copyright; copyright issues in course management systems; and faculty rights and responsibilities with regard to copyright and relevant legislation.

Abstract: This presentation presents the results of a college’s pilot project in electronic portfolios. The pilot project sought to implement electronic portfolios and to explore areas where portfolios could be use for innovation and effective teaching. The presentation summarizes the goals, procedures, results, and future directions of a pilot project that used Web-based portfolios as a precursor for institutional use.
