Why the upper right hand corner?

Different texts and different instructors may prefer or stipulate different styles or locations. If you think logically about how you look for a particular page, you will note that you usually expect to find your reference in the upper right hand corner -- sometimes called the "reference corner."

In a phone book, you expect last names in this corner. Dictionaries or encyclopedias will have the first and last words on the page. Handbooks will have the key terms or subjects discussed. An instructor looking through a folder for a particular paper will look for the student's name.
